To be used for to slow the velocity of stormwater in areas of concentrated flow, reducing the erosive capabilities of the water and allowing suspended sediment to settle out.  Not for use in flowing streams.

Straw Check Dams

Check dams can be built out of straw bales that have been staked down and covered with a layer of jute fabric.  When used in conjunction with Floc Logs® the jute fabric helps to collect and retain the sediment as the water passes through the straw bales.

Rock Check Dams

The photos below show check dams built with rock,  covered with jute matting.  In this photo a Floc Log® is visible on the downstream (left) side of the check held in place with rebar.  The rock check creates riffles in the flow, facilitating better mixing with the polymer.
